The Android 10 broke a tradition in the platform: to baptize each new version of the OS with the name of a dessert. But there is a slim (slim chance) that Android 11 – already on the way – will bring that custom back: we now know that Google internally calls this version of Android 11 Red Velvet Cake.
The information was given by Dave Burke, vice president of engineering for Android, in an interview with the channel All About Android : “we are going to 11, then it is Android 11. However, if you ask my team member ‘no that they are working on now ‘, they will answer ‘RVC’ and RVC means Red Velvet Cake ”.
It is a very interesting codename. First, because it was revealed just when the “everything is cake” game won the social media. Secondly, let’s face it, Red Velvet cake (or “red velvet”) is delicious!
Despite this, the chances of Android 11 being publicly called the Red Velvet Cake are really slim. Remember that Android 10 also received an internal code name, used by the platform’s developers: Quince Tart (quince pie). However, in the end, the operating system was released without a nickname.
We should stick to what matters most, then: Android 11 should be officially announced in September and bring interesting features, such as prioritizing conversations in the notification list, displaying chats in floating bubbles, facilitating access to music controls, improving privacy parameters and even make it easier to connect to public Wi-Fi networks .
