A series of tweets from news sources, Ross Young, on April 20, revealed a large number of specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 folding screen phone, which revealed a lot about the size of the external display, folding screen panels, and others around them.
120Hz folding display with UTG, no off-screen camera
According to reports, for the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, Samsung will use UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) technology similar to the Galaxy Z Flip. This gives the panel a higher stiffness and a better touch, reducing the plastic feel. The diagonal length of the foldable panel is 7.59 inches, the resolution is 2213 x 1689, and the refresh rate is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, which is a 120Hz screen.
Samsung initially hoped that the Galaxy Fold 2 will be equipped with an under-screen camera, but it was recently revealed that the technology is not yet ready, so Samsung will adopt a “punch screen” approach.
The source added that the foldable display will use LTPO backplane technology.
Support S Pen
According to leaked news, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will support the S Pen, but the source does not specify that this applies to the protective case or the folding display (or both). Obviously, it can improve the experience of using a tablet computer, so the source suggested using a stylus input especially on the indoor display.
According to foreign media SamMobile reports, the problem with folding screen panels is that they are less resilient to the pressure of sharp objects, such as the tip of the S Pen stylus. Perhaps Samsung has made great progress in UTG ultra-thin glass technology, so the folding panel of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will support S Pen.
Larger external display
The original Samsung Galaxy Fold external display has a diagonal length of 4.6 inches, but according to the leak, IT House learned that the Samsung Fold 2 external screen is 6.23 inches. It will have a resolution of 2267 x 819, LTPS backplane technology, a hole-punch design for selfie cameras and a 60Hz refresh rate.
