Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) said in an interview with the media that players buy second-hand discs can also support PS5 upgrades.

It is reported that in an interview with the Japanese media Game Spark, SIE said that when it comes to PS4 physical games getting PS5 upgrades, second-hand physical discs can also support upgrades, but the details of obtaining support will be disclosed in the future. At the same time, on the issue of PS5 backward compatibility, SIE said it was focusing on the backward compatibility of PS4 games, and said that it would let players take their PS4 game library to the new host platform.

When asked about PS1, PS2, and PS3 games backward compatibility, SIE said “no comment.” Eurogamer reports that Sony has officially announced to game developers on its platform that all new PS4 games must be compatible with PS5 starting July 13th, which means that all new games will be able to run on PS5 after mid-July.
