The Sony broke the silence and revealed details of backward compatibility PS5 in relation to games of PS4. According to the company’s official website, more than 4,000 old titles will be playable on the new console. Incompatibles will carry a stamp on the PlayStation Store, stating that they only work on the PS4.
Sony also highlighted some important points, such as the fact that not all PS4 games will have graphic improvements on the PS5, using the so-called “Game Boost”, which will improve frame rate and other small details.
In addition, some features present in PS4 games may not work on the PS5. And other games may have “unexpected behavior” when running on Sony’s new console – even though the company hasn’t detailed how.
The company also recommends using DualShock 4 when playing PS4 games. The controller will work on the PS5, but only for games on the old platform. PS Move, PS VR and Aim Controller will continue to function normally.
PS4 game on PS5
According to the company, only the following games will be incompatible with the PS5:
- DWVR
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Shadwen
- Joe’s Diner
The list of incompatible titles, for now, is definitive. Sony has given no indication that it may increase in the future. No “first-tier” game or Sony’s own should have trouble running.
Finally, the backwards compatibility of more than 4 thousand games will work in digital version and also on disk. It is possible that players have to download an update to play, but nothing different than expected.
Sony also recommends that users keep their PS5 updated in the latest version of the system, always, which should increase the quality of the backwards compatibility with existing titles.
