iOS (formerly called iPhone OS) is the mobile operating system released in June 2007 for use in Apple gadgets. Since its inception, more than 550,000 applications have been developed by March 2012. It derives from the Mac OS X code and works on ARM platforms, and the system is used on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV. It natively features maps, notes, contact calendar, game center, calendar and voice assistant, called Siri.
